Lets Get Cooking
Lets get cooking is a national scheme which aims to teach children from a young age, the joy of food, both cooking and of course, eating!
At Langwith Bassett, our Lets get cooking sessions are led by Mrs Lyons each Thursday afternoon in the community room. During the school year each class will have the opportunity to join the fun in the kitchen!
We believe that Lets get cooking clubs inspire our children to learn to cook and enjoy good food, giving them the confidence and skills they need to get hands-on in the kitchen and make healthier food choices. Our participation in the project has had a great impact on our pupils and all are eager to join. We encourage our 'Bassett Bakers' to take home their creations along with a recipe to share with their families.
Thursday 2nd February 2017
Our KS1 bakers prepared a meal of leek and potato soup followed by apple triangles today. They read the recipes and selected the ingredients and equipment needed. They used lots of cooking skills such as peeling, slicing, grating, blending and stirring to make the soup and the final result was delicious as well as healthy. The apple triangles were equally as tasty! Our Bakers had a go at using filo pastry, which was very tricky to handle, to create some amazing apple treats. The bakers were shocked that they could make such tasty things from so little ingredients! They presented their meal to Mrs Gratton who was very impressed with their new skills! Take a look at them in action...
Our Bakers prepared the Eatwell Pizza, following the Lets Get Cooking recipes. They learnt to slice vegetables safely using the claw and bridge grip. The pizzas were delicious! They were all so surprised how easy the pizzas were to make. Take a look at them in action.
