Note from the Chair

In recent years the powers and duties of governing bodies have increased substantially, as has the need for public accountability. Whilst the day-to-day management of the school is the responsibility of the Headteacher – Mrs Gratton, a successful school depends on an effective working partnership between the Headteacher and governors. We are not here to manage the school or take decisions that require professional teaching expertise, rather we help to take strategic decisions to help drive the school forwards in every positive way.

The Governing Board at Langwith Bassett is comprised of dedicated individuals who work hard to ensure the improvement of our school. Throughout the school year, each governor will visit the school many times and work closely with Mrs Gratton in highly specific, individual strategic roles, not only to provide support, but also provide challenge where necessary. The governors then report back to the full governing board with their findings.

As a full governing board, we meet regularly to discuss a whole range of school matters. In addition to providing strategic leadership and accountability to our school, we hold the main responsibility for the finances and we must ensure that money is well spent; we set aims and objectives for our school; we then set the policies and targets for achieving those aims and objectives and finally we monitor and evaluate the progress our school makes towards achieving them.

Our children deserve every possible opportunity to learn in a stimulating, safe and secure environment and I am confident that our current Aims and Ethos, set the foundation to ensure that when our children leave us, they have been nurtured and provided with the skills needed to ensure they are prepared for their next stage of learning.
