Dogs Trust - Dog Safety Assembly

On Thursday 21st September 2017, Sarah came into school to teach us about dog safety. In the morning, the whole school went to an assembly.

Classes 3 and 5 were lucky enough to take part in a workshop with Sarah to learn more about dog safety. We recapped what we learnt from assembly, discussed different breeds of dog, what different breeds are trained to do. Did you know German Shepherds make great police dogs because of their ears and nose?

We also played top trumps to learn even more about dogs. We had so much fun!

Sarah Saunders from Dogs Trust came to speak to the Year 5's about what Dogs Trust is and what they do.

She also discussed about the different breeds of dogs and their characteristics. Also asked the children what kind of dogs they have and what they are like.

She mentioned that if you look at the dogs owners you can see what type of dog they have. If they are kind and keep their dogs healthy and give them love and attention then they will have happy dogs.

They discussed what dogs need:

  1. healthy food and water
  2. Exercise
  3. Routine Health checks
  4. Love and attention
  5. Grooming and cleaning
  6. Sleep

The importance of giving the dogs the correct foods they shouldn't eat chocolate, grapes and garlic. If they eat our foods they can become very ill and they will not sleep, grow very fat and big and have major health problems.

Year 5 completed an activity on their strengths and weakness. They found out the importance of these and how they make them who they are. This applies to dogs too.
