Class 3 Mosque Visit
Today, Class 3 visited one of the mosques in Derby and then went to the open centre to take part in some workshops.
When we got there, we had to put on our head coverings and take off our shoes. Did you know Muslims wash their face, hands and feet before entering into the mosque?
Once inside, Naz showed us the different parts of the mosque and explained all of the prayer mats face Mecca and that Muslims are expected to pray 5 times a day.
Then, we went back to the Open Centre and learnt about Arabic calligraphy and the Arabic alphabet. Do you know that they read from right to left? Next, we had a chance to practise writing the letters.
After lunch we learnt about Asian Marriages and spoke about Muslims and Hindus. Did you know that they have 2 wedding days? One for the bride and one for the groom. Then, Naz explained what a marriage ceremony would look like and what clothes/jewellery that they would be wearing. Take a look at our beautiful bride and handsome groom...
Finally, we had a chance to try on some of the clothes and Naz put some henna on us in a variety of designs. It took 10 minutes to dry and we had to be really careful not to smudge it. Muslims use henna on their hands and arms as decoration, just like make up.
