Spring Term 1

This term our science topic was materials. We have learnt about the three different states of mater: solids, liquids and gases. Ask our children if they can remember what each of these are. Plus, we looked at reversible and irreversible changes. It was really fun experimenting with melting chocolate and asking our laboratory assistant, Annabelle, to put the fried egg back in its shell. Also, we learnt where the puddles on our playground go when it rains. Guess what, they evaporate! During our writing lessons, we wrote an explanation text about the water cycle. Take a look at our amazing writing.

Our art this half term has been inspired by the four elements – earth, fire, water and air. Look how fantastic they look…

First, we collaged leaves to make a giant leaf and then sponged light to dark green around the outside for Earth.

Next, we cut out a flame stencil and drew around it for fire. Then, we sponged from the centre of the flame outwards. We had to be so careful to make sure we had solid lines and that the flame kept its shape.

Finally, we blew paint for the air and bubbles. This was the most fun part….and the messiest!

In RE, we have learnt about Buddhism and why people go on a pilgrimage. During Buddhism, we used drama to recreate some elements of the Eightfold Path. We also recognised Bodhi Day on 24th January, which is the Buddha’s birthday and learnt about the famous Buddhist festival, Wesak. To understand more about this festival, we made Wesak lanterns.

Our new writing topic is linked to playscripts, we have learnt what a character, scene, title, setting, narrator, cast list and what stage directions are. We really enjoyed acting out Little Red Riding Hood and the Three Little Pigs. Here are the playscripts we followed and we even made our own props

Please watch one of our performances.

In maths, we have tried really hard to learn to use money and to tell the time. Please help our children at home to tell the time on a digital and an analogue clock.

We are looking forward to our next topic….Anglo-Saxons and Vikings.
