Spring Term 1
Over the last term Class 2 have had a wonderful time learning all about toys. We have found out all about toys from the past and compared them with the sorts of things we play with. We have even made our own cup and ball games and some spinning thaumatropes. We have found out all about the history of teddy bears, where they came from, their famous connection to the American President Theodore Roosevelt and the famous Steiff bears.
We have read the story of Dogger by Shirley Hughes. It is a lovely story about a small boy who loses his favourite cuddly toy called Dogger. It explores his love for his toy dog, how he reacts when he loses it and what happens when he finds it on a second hand stall being sold to someone else.
We read the story and then used story maps to sequence and retell it. We then planned our own stories based on a lost and found theme.
In maths we have developed our skills further in maths, particularly in addition, subtraction and multiplication. We are improving so well with our times tables in our weekly maths challenge. We are practicing using different methods to help us including using tens sticks and ones cubes to help us calculate, and by using number lines to count forwards and backwards. Our confidence and accuracy is increasing every week.
In science we have found out all about plants, their different parts and what they need to survive. We are so looking forward to growing our own plants in class two’s new garden project in the warmer weather. Look out for further details, we may well be asking for volunteers to help us!
